The Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers, Ontario Chapter (CAPS Ontario) is pleased to announce the finalists for the 2010 Best Ontario Sommelier Competition. The qualifying round took place in Toronto on Monday, June 7th. This competition takes place every two years, and the winner is eligible to compete for the Best Canadian Sommelier Competition. The winner of the Best Canadian Sommelier competition is eligible to represent Canada at the World’s Best Sommelier competition, held every three years. The four finalists are the following in alphabetical order:
Jonathan Gonsenhauser - Air Canada Centre/Toronto, Ontario
Richard Healey - 9 Church - Wine Bar/Toronto, Ontario
Will Predhomme - Canoe Restaurant/Toronto, Ontario
Steve Robinson - Atelier Restaurant/Ottawa, Ontario
The final competition will allow the above candidates to show off their skills in a written examination covering every aspect of their profession followed by a service examination which will test their abilities to serve, decant, make food and wine matching recommendations, taste, recognize wines and spirits as well as their comportment and professionalism.
